My friends laptop has a cd drive that is broken. Thing is he needs that drive to play a game. Can I share my CD drive on the network so he can (successfully) use it to play that game. I would also be playing that game on the computer with the shared drive and we would be playing against each other via LAN. Would it work. We have a wireless G router if that makes a difference.
chances are that you both couldn't play the game at the same time. sharing the drive over the network should allow him to play but there is very little chance it would allow both of you to play at once. that would be like using the same CD key to play a game on multiple machines...not gonna happen.
there is the off chance that the game won't even play for him over the network.
either way, why are you asking...just try it :)
I think I've tried this with Diablo II. I had to share the optical drive on my PC and then go into my brother's Registry Editor to direct the game to seek the drive over the network. I never got it to work, but I only spent a very brief 5 minutes trying it--perhaps from misspelled network address because I don't know if it's seeking the Windows-associated 'computer name' or IP address.
