I've cracked wep several times. It is not difficult.

It's often more than enough though depending on what your local wifi community is like.In my area , 50% of the networks are totally wide open....anybody that wants to can just use the open ones , why bother cracking anything.

MAC filtering is also pointless.I can spoof a MAC addy in under 60 seconds.

If you need security , WPA2 is your answer.

WPA2, no reason to go with WEP or WPA.

I regularly crack WEP when I'm out and about on my laptop. I have all the software on there to do it. Sometimes I need net and it's WEP "secured" :P

Also MAC cloning is easy too; some people JUST use that.

Nope, hard wired all the way. Some clown has a unsecure network nearby, and I live in the sticks. Some people just aren't too bright.

I'm glad to see there's actually really few HWC members out there using WEP.

That said, if WEP is still in use, that's fairly easy to understand. Most people aren't interested in the "behind the scene" part of computers. If those people are not informed correctly, there is just no way they will find this information by them self.

But you are the most secure of all! Who would bother cracking WPA2 when there are several open alternatives.

Same here , so many open networks , security is irrelevant. At that point MAC filtering is all you need , even tho it's nothing.
