Hey ho HWC! how are you guys today! I have a collegue that ask me a good question. He's kids are always stick on the computer wasting time on the internet, like me and he want them to stop. So he ask me if it was possible to block the internet at certain hours of the day. I know it is with software or good switch but I don't know anymore. If you guys can help me to help me it would be nice!

Windows 7 now allows the admin account to set times allow on for other accounts. Basically he should go get win 7, set up accounts for his kids and set up the blocks he wants to let them on and make sure the admin account is a password protected.

I believe as a kid more direct parenting works better, there are always ways around blocks it seems and it doesn't allow for special circumstances (sometimes you need a PC for homework).

As mentioned already, Windows 7 has nice parental controls built in for stuff like that. Komodo, Sonicwall and Linux box firewalls easily allow for blocking of sites based outright or on a schedule.

I don't know if your using a router, but my Linksys w/ DD-WRT firmware can block bandwidth via a schedual.

Safe eyes I believe does it. Parents should definitely use some parental controls for kids especially if they are young. Although I wouldn't care much if my kids where on the internet or playing game a lot better than some of the alternatives.
