Angry Maximum usage fee

Hey guys,

Today my mom received our bill from Videotron showing that we'd have to pay around 440$, and usually it costs about 160-170$ (phone/tv/internet) so thats almost 270$ overcharge. And I won't pay neither will my mom.

I'm guessing it was because of the games I downloaded (Torchlight, Dragon Age: Origin, Left 4 Dead 2 - Note: I'm not a pirate, all of these are legit, I don't pirate stuff like music and porn)...but IIRC there is some places in law that says the ISP can't charge more than something like 30$ for going overcap and pass this cap, they can't charge more. But I can't find the exact lines on the gouvernment's website.

I'll be calling Videotron tonight to tell them that we refuse to pay over 30$. It's not like I've downloaded like 300Gbs of random crap - 3 games (maybe some other stuff I don't remember, but nothing that can justify having us to pay so much) Our cap is 30Gbs up/down, we're going to change our 6mb/s for 50mb/s with a 100GBs cap (I think it's about 15-20$ more a month that I will be paying myself)

I may have busted the cap by 5-10Gbs, the charge of 250+ $ is totally ridiculous. What should I tell Videotron other than I don't want their service anymore? (I don't want to go with hell or some other crappy ISP here)

EDIT : sorry if I'm in the wrong section, didnt know where I should have put this.

What is your cap and how much does your contract state that you have to pay per extra GB?

Our cap is 30GB's download & upload togheter. I asked Videotron to change to this since it already happened once and we had 20 down / 10 up (and we don't even use 1gb of upload per month....so I asked for it to be converted into download)

I'll ask my mom when I see her tonight for the $ per extra GB's

Surprise, surprise.

Lookie what I found on the Videotron site:

Quote:
Any usage exceeding the limits of the chosen access will be billed at $7.95 per gigabyte used, up to a maximum of $50 per month.

this statement is right on their website;
"Any usage exceeding the limits of the chosen access will be billed at $7.95 per gigabyte used, up to a maximum of $50 per month."

Videotron are known for having insane charges.

With bell they have a max overage charge of $30 per billing cycle. Unfortunately my last bill was over $200 but a simple call fixed that in no time.

OMG that is ridulously low Bandwidth allowance. and then $8/GB above that. Holy MOLY!! I thought Shaw bought out Videotron? At least in Winnipeg... I think I would kill myself if I was limited to 30gb a month. Although one time I downloaded a 100gb torrent file in one night with Azureus and it must've made the download seem as if it were http traffic or something cause I check my bandwidth for the month and it was only like < 30GB. What's your connection speeds.

Did you check your Internet usage on the website : https://www.videotron.com/services/s...o?lang=ENGLISH

The reason I'm asking is because 270$ is impossible if you busted the limit by only 5-10 GB

- Basic internet and standard high speed are 7.95$ per GB but capped at 50$
- Ultimate speed and Extreme high speed are only 1.50$ per GB
- Extreme high speed plus is 7.95$ with no cap but 10 GB over the limit would add up to only 79.50$

So I'm pretty sure you busted the limit by more than 10 GB
