There are a number of cross-platform clients that support Rendezvous local messaging. If you've got a router, the messages shouldn't leave your network, unless you've got your router configured to.

Thanks for all of the ideas. I might just have to look into the irc end of it (was thinking of that as an option anyways)

It would be 2 way messaging. Currently just between my main desktop and my wife's notebook but will also be for my kids machine once I finish building it, as well as any other systems I happen to piece together in the basement.

No it doesn't. Sure I could get up and walk over to my wife to ask her something but that is not exactly what I want to do. Yes I want to be able to message the kids and say that dinner is ready or something like that, but I also want to be able to send a link or something like that to my wife. Plus getting up and talking just would not be as challenging now would it?

Considering the kids are always around I don't think that would be such a good idea. Then again we could always send them to a relatives for the day.

I thought of this as well. Does anyone know if it is still in Windows 7?

Squeetard's definition of hallway sex is when the loving couple meet in the hallway and each say "sc**w you!" - part of an old joke

Create your own in VB6, it's simple. I have some basic code if needed.
