Lightbulb Lan card or on board lan networking card? the killer nic wonder?
Hello all,

I will need your opinion or expertise regarding this question:

When most of the motherboard our days comes with an on board LAN card, the development of LAN party and gaming online goes more hungry of performance and frame rates and ping etc.

during another questioning i got this answer...

What do you think: Abs Tagan 1300watts power supply? worth it or not?

Since we're linking Anandtech here, AnandTech: EVGA Killer Xeno Pro: The Impact of Network Offloading shows that there is very minimal improvement if any by going to a separate network card vs. onboard.

Your board has dual gigabit LAN ports. Using one of those would do just fine. Those fancy nic cards add very little performance if any at all. I've seen comparisons where the dedicated boards actually perform worse then onboard.

If I needed a dedicated NIC then I just grab NCIX.com - Buy Intel PRO/1000 CT Desktop Gigabit Ethernet Network Adapter PCI Express NIC OEM - EXPI9301CTBLK In Canada.

there will be no difference save your money buy more ram and or a good graphics card and get a good ISP that doesn't have allot of people uploading and downloading on it also play on servers that are closer to where you live.
I discovered this buy doing allot of internet research joining all sorts of forums that are related to on line gaming but mostly places like DSL reports .com will give you good info on this . I didn't listen to what allot of people where saying about spending way to much money on a LAN card when it made no difference , I experimented on servers with my on board and the lan card I bought and noticed no improvement at all. not until I upgraded my vid card and ram did I notice a fairly large improvement

It depends on what you're doing. Transferring files or playing online games, pick up a Pro/1000. KillerNIC isn't worth it (I've tested them, I've still got two around here somewhere...).

i now have to wait if the ultra will be a major difference in performance and price compare to the pro version. otherwise ill jsut save my moeny :)
