well after a few more hours of fighting with this piece of crap computer..... i got it fixed. it eventually came down to norton!!! when i uninstalled it it didnt uninstall everything i guess. i had to get a Norton removal tool for vista and run it a few times to clean up all the crap it left behind. I HATE NORTON!!!! thanks for all your help guys.
