Default Gone to router heaven?

I use a DI-524 wireless router, yeah I know it's a cheapie but it's worked perfectly up until now. I use the wireless for mine and my wife's laptop. Both lappys show excellent signal strength but the connection is insanely slow and most of the time firefox will just time out. My hardwired comps have no issues with speed. Occasionally the speed will pick up close to normal for a few minutes then go dead again. When the computers are very close to the router things seem to be OK. I've tried different channels, new firmware, fiddled with the security settings and nothing seems to help.

Is it time to move on or does anybody have any other ideas?

Sounds like interference between where you are with your laptops and the router. Go another direction and see if you get signal? New cordless phones in the house? Try (if possible) placing the router in a different room and see what happens.
