My System Specs

Default Recommendations

Greetings, Wireless routing is completely new to me. I will be setting up another pc at home. It's time to go wireless. Which 802.11-n router would you all recommend? Also, what cards would you recommend?

Your input is appreciated. Thanks.

Well buy the matching cards with the router you get. Only way you'll get optimal performance.

From what I've read though, 802.11n still isn't fully ready to take over G. All the current stuff out has little quirks which makes it less than ideal.

I've got a D-link DIR-625 router, works great through 2 floors with a DWA-542 adapter, 130 Mbps connection. It's also got 3 other wireless G (2 comps and Xbox) and a hard-wired connection going simultaneously. Only problem is when we run out of bandwidth on Shaw when everyone is trying to do something at once. But that has nothing to do with the router.

If you aren't moving large files around a lot you can probably get away with a G router. I'd go for one that's compatible with tomato/dd-wrt/open-wrt etc. Otherwise I've found my Dlink-655 to be very stable and capable of 10+MB/s. (hope I have the right units there)
