Sony just recalled a bunch of TZ Vaio laptops. Consumer Product Safety Commission Announces Sony VAIO Recall; About 73k Notebooks Affected - HispanicBusiness.com The Asus looks alright. Haven't really stayed up on laptops lately. Already got two, but I do have to buy one for my wife this coming spring. Good luck.

I would get something like this one for student use. WARM??Compaq Presario Notebook PC $364.97 with coupons Oh and I don't think that the laptop being sold is a recalled one. You can always check but I wouldn't worry too much about that. (but u should check before buying)

| Makes Sense, I just meant gaming on a 14'' screen wouldn't be that good, and if your not going to game then there is no need for a laptop with that video card. Quote:
Best Buy Canada Web Store: Computers: Laptops: Gateway 14.1" Laptop featuring Intel Core 2 Duo T5750 2.0GHz (T-6842) And there are a lot of good dell laptops for less. The Graphic card in the one that you want is a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650... thats AMD. Haha but I guess you mean just the AMD processors... ya they do kind of suck.

You get much better bang for buck with the Asus. It's a nice machine imo. One thing to be aware of is battery life on Asus laptops always falls short compared to other brands. Not sure why but it is a common complaint. Sony is nice but like anything they produce... it is overpriced. In the 14" range you are looking at business notebooks so that really limits your choices since you are in a hurry. But as long as you don't need to rely on battery life for hours the Asus will do you nicely :)

I was consider that ASUS one for school but I believe it only gets like 2h runtime on battery which IMO wasn't long enough. That wouldn't get me through a 3h class... So I went with the Dell XPS m1330. Had to sacrifice the Centrino 2 CPU and the dedicated graphics (didn't want NVIDIA's failure graphics) but I got a 9 cell battery which seems to give me about 5 hours.
