I've heard good things about the 'FNF Ifive Mini 4S', although no personal experience. You can regularly find it on AliExpress for about $130-140 CAD shipped.

Ew. No. Find a used Nexus tablet in good condition! They weren't expensive to begin with, so they should be the same price as a one of those other options, but not crap.

I had a legacy nexus7 (2012 vice 2013) and sold it off once it started lagging.

Not completely sold on this idea, but figured that since Chinese phones were being recommended that maybe there were some decent tabs along the same lines.

If you don't want a lesser known brand, Lenovo P8...aka tab3 8 plus

https://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/...29.html?wid=21

$159.99USD (using the their conversion to CAD its $202.24).

Don't compare it to the non-plus model that is quite low end. This one is Snapdragon 625, 3gb ram, 16gb storage (expandable), 1920x1200, and I think android 6.

Very short lived tablet since it was late coming to market, and the tab 4 plus has replaced it recently. Tab 4 plus has a bigger battery and newer version of android, but otherwise I believe it's the same (obviously more expensive).

I recently ordered one for my son when it was $5USD cheaper. Don't have it yet though.

Let us know how you make out and whether or not you get hit with silly border fees.

Will do. I am currently in Australia, so as long as it's <$1000 I don't think there are any fees here (a much better/cheaper option for buyers than at home with duty+tax+++).

Can't you find something from Xiaomi or Huawei? At least they're a bit more reputable than these random brands. I guess it's probably beyond the $120 price point though.
