Default The price hike of our big mobile carriers

O Canada, I love you. But I do not love our Canadian Wireless providers. This was published last week by the CBC and the major 3 did a price hike on any wireless plans and now start at 75$ a month for data+voice. This is just sickening I know they're IPO's and they do it in the name of profit but the price hike would make the average joe hesitant in getting a smartphone in fear of paying nearly 100$ a month for their plans.

Are you also forgetting that people complained and whined about 3 year contracts so now they 2 year contracts? Where do you think the loss from that has be to made up?

Uh the data lite plans weren't affected, at least last I looked on Bell and Telus' websites, just their data+ which is geared toward sharing amongst 2+ devices that got the hike.

Not saying this isn't bad, just not every single plan with data was jacked up.

Price actually just went down here in Quebec. Videotron just introduced a $70/month plan with unlimited Canada-wide calling and 30GB of data.

prices went up because the "free" phone has less time to paid off.

don't get me wrong though, from a BYOD standpoint we are still getting raked over the hot coals...

It's there. You just have to ask for it. They're advertising it on the radio.

It's a business plan that is also open to retentions.

The CEOs are all planning new billion dollar yachts for a rally next summer. Don't be greedy folks these people have lifestyles to fund!

I actually had Virgin phone me last week to ask if I was happy with their service. I have been on a 100 minute/200MB ($45) plan for a few months now since I barely use my phone, but I told him I had been looking at the plans being advertised recently for 400MB for $40. He went ahead and offered me a plan with 500 minutes/500mb for $42 instead. Not often does a telecom company phone you and offer a better plan for less.

Not being on contract is nice, I always buy my phones flat out.

The claim that they need to make up the "losses" for 2 year plans is BS. I've already ranted about this. All the big 3 were offering new phones after 2 years if you re-signed with them, only required 3 years if you changed companies. They were profitable on 2 year "contracts" before the govn't made it mandatory, yet when it became forced, they suddenly upped all the prices. That doesn't sound like price fixing at all when all 3 companies suddenly charge you an extra $20 (or more). The other major problem is that they now make all plans "unlimited" with what were previously "premium" addons and jack up the base price of plans.
