Default Did cell phone plans increase in $$$ recently?

Sing the petition for bullsh*** price fixing: https://www.change.org/en-CA/petitio...ellphone-rates

I just was on the rogers website to see the new terms for their data overage use on plans and the page they showed me with smartphone plans were TOTALLY over-priced! $70 was the cheapest plan under "talk text and data." It is great that you get unlimited nation-wide calling (I have 1000 minutes with evenings starting at 6pm) and call display +3 voice mails included... but you only get 250mb of data (+250mb extra = 500 as a promo) and have to pay a horrid over-charge on data. My plan is so much better and cheaper. Their $75 plan is the only one that is reasonable and it is still too expensive (ignoring if you need one of the plans with crazy amounts of data).

WTF, why are things going backwards? How are you finding things with your cell phone companies if you look at their current offerings?

im assuming this is due to the gov restricting any new 2 year contracts...rogers/bell/telus need to keep the fat cats pockets lined......welcome to Canada where we pay more in cell phone services than some 3rd world countries..

Yeah I have family waiting for deals to improve as well. 1.5 years ago I got in with Telus for unlimited favorite 10 nationwide, + I think 250 anytime min, and unlim evenings and weekends, and 6gb data for $65 a month (got an iphone 4 at the time for $0 on a 3 year). I have never come close to 6gb...its great if I am away from wifi though, since I can tether my laptop and still not worry about data (works better than hotel internet a lot of times for games too).

Look at the sub-brands, Fido, Koodo and Virgin. Far more competitive pricing IMO.

For $54 (10% BYOD credit, usually $60) plus tax I have Unlimited talk, text, CID, VM and 2GB data. That is rather reasonable in my mind.

I do like the sub brands (although I couldn't believe how much I got ripped off with my pay as you go with virgin... they put money from my credit card into my account and didn't use that money to pay for the monthly texting plan I had added to the pay as you go!!!), but I always phone rogers and get a deal through the loyalty/retention department that is better than anything they list on their site. STILL, sometimes fido has offered plans almost as good as the "deal" I get rogers. lol

Maybe this has something to do with it....

Bell's discounting of mobile TV against the rules, complaint claims - Technology & Science - CBC News

I've long argued that we need to tag legit high bandwidth commercial traffic so that it can be treated with priority over things like torrents, but it would have to be universal and ISPs shouldn't be able to promote their content in this manner.

it is scary how many big businesses are actively engaging in unfair market practice and especially PRICE FIXING. I've heard at least 5 major stories in the last 2 years (TVs, gasoline, chocolate bars, automotive, etc) and that just makes me thing how many are not found...

Fore and my wife cell plan here in arctic we pay $210 a month for unlimited evenings weekends and have 8 gigs of data combined so if she uses 1-2 gigs I have 6-7 I can use without overages, I'm with bell up here.
