Default Replacing an old MBP with a a decent notebook

My power adapter / battery is going on my 2009 13" MBP and I'm looking at replacing it soon. I use the macbook for traveling and late night browsing. I always liked the mbp because it doesnt overheat and makes little to no noise with the upgraded SSD. I was wondering what I could get same size wise and similar price for more performance.

I have this Acer | Aspire V7 and I love it, the processor is on the weaker side but it offers wicked battery life because of that (about 6 hours with light web browsing, 8 hours wordprocessing in airplane mode and just shy of 2 hours gaming).

Honestly if you aren't gaming and are looking in that price range the newest MBP is probably the best option, nothing with windows is going to give you the same battery life.

You could check out something like the gigabyte p35k if you want to game and if you don't want to game I honestly would go with a Macbook Air or and Asus Ultrabook.

If you do a lot of typing you might want to look lenovo's direction for an X1 carbon or something similar because they have nice keyboards.

I guess my question is in what way are you looking for more performance?

Edit: I would also like to know a more precise budget, as current MBP's with SSD's are $1500, so I just want to make sure that is your price range.

I was aiming at 1000 to 1500 mainly. I realized today that the new retina mbp can't have the ram or ssd upgraded at all... I was gonna save some cash that way and do that myself. Those Asus ultrabooks look promising but they mostly come with windows 8.. which I do not want. I don't plan on doing any heavy gaming it's mostly browsing and traveling so good battery and lightweight is a must. I'd also like to keep it at 13 inch

Have you tried windows 8? it's really not that bad, it is very difficult to find a non-windows 8 laptop these days, also you will get better wake times and battery life on windows 8.

but maybe try this one
Acer TravelMate P645-M Core I7-4500U 8GB 256G SSD 14in FHD HD8750 2G WIN7/8 Pro Ultrabook
