My System Specs

Default Laptop suggestion

My father is looking to replace their current laptop, which requires 3+ power button presses to turn on and will shut off if you close the front down. That being said they got it for free as VISA thought it was cheaper to give them their money back rather than go for expensive repairs and the laptop has been fine at home.

He recently found out one of his friends in the states will be wanting him to go to the states to do some training which will require him to have a new laptop. I am thinking of getting him one of the lower end ultrabooks with at least 6GB of Ram and the hybrid/split HDD/SDD. I know he'll be using it for Autocad and other engineering software but no games, video editing, etc required.

Was thinking something along the lines of these:
Lenovo Ideapad U510 15.6" Ultrabook -Grey (Intel Core i5-3337U/ 24GB SSD/1TB HDD/8GB RAM/ Windows 8) : Ultrabooks - Future Shop
ASUS S Series S56CA 15.6" Ultrabook-Black (Intel Core i5-3317U/24GB SSD 750GB HDD/6GB RAM/Windows 8) : Ultrabooks - Best Buy Canada

and would be putting Win 7 on it rather than running Win 8.

Those are nice. But keep an eye out for a Dell Vostro 3360. They are actually really awesome laptops/ultrabooks. It might be tough to find one with a hybrid/cache SSD drive though.

New laptops are coming out with the 4th gen. Haswell processors (some are already out) probably in Sept./Oct.? For new school season? So, there should be quite a few sales going on?

I like ultrabooks, myself. If I was buying a new laptop, that's what I'd get. I like the ones by Sony, Samsung and Asus (I guess).
