Default Deciding on ASUS Laptop

Hello all, been awhile since I posted, I mostly just lurk. I am going to buy a new laptop to replace my Alienware from 2008 that has survived two deployments. I've narrowed it down to these two laptops, and I just wanted some feedback. They are both ASUS 55 series laptops

ASUS A55A-TH52 Laptop Computer - 3rd generation Intel Core i5-3210M 2.5GHz, 6GB DDR3, 750GB HDD, Blu-ray Player/DVDRW, 15.6 Display, Windows 8 64-bit, 1-Year Warranty, 1-Year Accidental at TigerDirect.com

Newegg.com - ASUS A55VD-NS51 Notebook Intel Core i5 3230M(2.60GHz) 15.6" 6GB Memory DDR3 1600 500GB HDD 5400rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA GeForce GT 610M

I am leaning toward the one from Newegg mostly because of the non-integrated graphics card. The tiger direct one has a larger HDD and a blueray player, but I have no desire to invest in Blue ray disks. I can also get an external HDD to make up the difference or install a SSD.

Any feedback or a recommendation of another laptop below $700 that has around the same specs as these two laptops, would be much appreciated!

My System Specs

Default

A discrete GPU is definitely a benefit, but I did notice that both systems use a 5400 RPM HDD, which is not exactly spectacular. If you'll have a portable storage option I'd look at getting one with an SSD in it or a 7200RPM drive as you'll really notice the performance bump.

I'm not sure what ASUS's non-GXX series laptops are like to replace HDDs on, so it might be worth checking the manuals for each model first as on some occasions laptop manufacturers do some really stupid things and the less you have to take apart in a laptop the better. (Being ASUS however, I suspect they'll be easily swapped)
