My System Specs

Default 7970m vs 7970m CF

Just as the title suggests, but with a twist...

Im going to be financing a laptop (and I know there are better options, but i have made my mind up) and im trying to decide if I should go with a 7970m or 7970m CF...

Theres 18$ in the difference per month... Here are the specs

Options 1

3630qm - 3.4ghz
Windows 7 Ultimate
14gb Ram
7970m
1 TB 5400 rpm drive with 64gb ssd cache
Killer wireless network card (im installing it myself, Taking it out of my olld laptop)
Blu ray drive
1920x1080 17" screen

This is $71/month

Option 2

3630qm - 3.4ghz
Win 7 Ultimate
24gb ram
Dual 7970m
1TB 5400 rpm + 64gb ssd cache
Killer wireless card (same as above)
Blue ray drive
1920x1080 18" screen

This one is $89/month

Both these prices include taxes and shipping.... So now I am just trying to decide which one I should get.

24gb of ram is wayyy over board, but i could always make a ram disk out of it, and even 14 is a lot, but anyway,

Any input is appreciated. I honestly do not know which i would rather have, I want the laptop to be good for at least 4 years.

I have also looked at the nvidea offerings, and I am not interested in the premium that comes with them...

Crossfire issues can only get better with time... So im willing to deal with them.

Thanks

If you're looking at gaming then hell yes the graphics horsepower worth those 17$. Mind you the laptop would probably get hotter and louder and the battery would struggle keeping it for even half an hour under load.

I would be interested in know how you like your setup once you get it. I am currently looking at getting a notebook with a 7970m as well, I have a few pieces of software now that use the gpu for its horse power. but it would not hurt if it was decent at gaming as well. Who makes the laptop you are looking at?

Definitely worth the small price increase, might I make a suggestion as well.
swap the mechanical 5400 for a mechanical 7200 such as the WD scorpio black, everything else is high performance, why not get a very solid performing mechanical drive instead of being held back(not counting SSD)

I will deffo let you know how I like the setup once I have it.

I see where you are coming about the 5400 rpm drive... and I agree. Im going to try and get a 'free' upgrade next week when I call to order it.

Im sure I can haggle a sales rep :P

And as for the make of the laptop.... get ready...

Alienware

Im only buying it from them because of their financing offer, and the ability to pay it off early. No interest if I pay it off in 12 months, which shouldnt be hard at all. Sounds good to me lol.
