HP ENVY 6 Sleekbook Review COMMENT THREAD

Today's slim and light notebooks typically hit the $1000 mark, making them all but unattainable for anyone on a strict budget. Now, HP has teamed up with AMD and their Trinity APU to create the Envy 6 lineup of Sleekbooks. These ultra portable notebooks start at just $699 yet seem to feature everything we could possibly want.

Well it is kind of nice but considering you can pick up an aspire s3 ultrabook with an i5 ULV for $629 at memry express I really don't see any reason to buy this. I think this would need to hit a much lower price point for me to consider it.

Well, in response to that I can say: this isn't an Acer....thank God.

My main issue with the recent Envy's has been their crappy screens.

I was actually quite impressed with the screen. I mean it isn't an IPS panel but then again, there are very few notebooks without TN these days.

Plus the Acer aspire s3 has only 13.3inch screen...while this is a 15.6inch!

How much would it cost to replace the battery in 2-3 years? Since this is 4 cells, i guess it will be cheaper than most but what about labor? Anyone has any experience having their ultrabook battery replaced? I am a bit worried about it since we keep laptop like forever.

I hate the fact that HP took the Envy name and destroyed it with terrible screens. When I got my Envy 15 years ago I was amazed by a 1080p screen in a 15" laptop. They took the luxury of the name and slapped it on a bargain computer. Not impressed.

If you are worried about replacing the battery, allow me to suggest Dell's Vostro 3360.

Thanks for your suggestion!
However, i find 13inch to be too small.

While surfing the net about batteries, I came across a nice article telling which ultrabook can have their "non-user" replaceable battery with possible replacement by user. The HP Envy 6 was not part of this article at that time thought.

Thanks for your reviews, its very appreciated!
This HP Envy 6 is very temping... for the price!

I had a customer bring one of these in a few weeks ago. I definitely liked the finish on the bottom and behind the screen, as well as the ethernet jack cover being pretty well thought out, but that was about it. I feel the screen was terrible, that much gloss leads to a horrible experience in any sort of light. Trackpad is HP's typical fancy looking square which sucks for actually being used. Form over function seems to be HP's motto, and it's really annoying. (Sadly it's not even just HP, seems most laptop build quality is going in the shitter)
