Contracts are 2 years now, and no, that doesn't include a phone, just the plan. Adding a phone is typically another $20 on top of the plan price.

Not entirely true. I was speaking primarily of Koodo and Virgin Mobile. At $60 you get unlimited calling/text, 2GB data, and $150-200 off the price of a phone. It's basically a 2yr "tab" balance.

Roaming charges are pretty dependent on the individual - in three years with Wind I racked up something like $5 in roaming charges.

The price itself is unbeatable, but reception is terrible unless you live pretty close to the cell tower, this is not just in Toronto but also true in GVR region.

Default Wind

I've been with Wind for over 2 years now. My reception is good but it depends on where you live. They are always adding towers. People need to remember that they're creating their own network and aren't using Bell or Rogers towers and you cannot build a nationwide mobile network of towers overnight. It takes time. Probably another decade before they are comparable to the big three.

However if you mostly use it in city centres or closely outlying areas then you're fine.

I don't live in a town, I live in a rural area but am very close the military base so this whole area has Wind coverage. Your best bet is to check on the coverage map to see if the coverage they offer lines up with your needs.

I'm happy with Wind. They now roam on many networks so you'll get the call if you need it.

The pricing is awesome and unlimited roaming in the USA just proves how shitty things are here.

You're telling me that Wind can negotiate unlimited text/data/voice roaming in the USA but still have to pay per use here? HRMM!

I will chip in and say that the unlimited data with Wind comes with a price. You get up to 20GB of data before you are throttled down. As for Wind not using Rogers' towers, that's not exactly true. They do have roaming agreements with Rogers, which allows their customers to make and receive calls on Rogers' network if there is no cell tower coverage. People on the eastern side of the country will always praise Wind for coming in as they have hated on the 'big three' for years. Myself, I managed to talk Bell into a royalty plan and have saved over $30 a month. Wind won't come into my area as there is no money to be made off of it, so you have to remember that Wind is only targeting the bigger centers.
