My System Specs

Default Ultrabook Suggestions

So I'm in the market for an ultrabook. I like the portability / weight, yet still having the functionality of a full computer (not a tablet). I'm not interested in Apple by the way.

I've narrowed it down to a few choices, and I'd like some opinions (good or bad). A few of the important criteria are price, size (screen / weight), screen resolution, and battery life.

My current favorites are:
1. Asus UX31-DB51 ($1100) - Pros: Screen (1920x1080 IPS, may be even too high reso), size (13" and light) Cons: Price $1100 for not a whole lot of horsepower.
2. HP Envy Spector XT ($960) - Pros: Size (13" and light), price is more reasonable Cons: Screen resolution (1366 x 768)
3. Samsung 9 Series 13" ($1200) - Pros: Screen (1600x900 perfect for 13"), size, battery life Cons: Price

These are all laptops with the same processor (i5-3317u) and a 128GB SSD. I'd prefer an SSD to keep down noise & heat, and increase battery life.

Ideally I would like a 13", but I would consider a 14" if the specs are good and the chassis isn't overly large. I'd prefer to keep the price around $1000, but I'm not sure if that's possible or not. I'd be interested in hearing if there are any upcoming models being release as well since I probably won't be buying for another month or so.

Anyway, opinions and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

None of the above.

Dell Vostro 3360: Vostro 3360 Laptop Details

Pros:
Matte screen
Replaceable and expandable battery
Under $900
1 Year of on-site service (a 2 year upgrade with on-site and Pro-Support is only $90 right now)
MUCH more storage capacity + cache drive for faster boots (!!)
Ivy Bridge processors
Expandable memory
6GB of memory only a $45 option

Cons:
1366 x 768 display
4 cell battery (get the 9-cell additional battery for -I'm not kidding- up to 20 hours of battery life)

+1 for the 3360. Maybe also look at the Lenovo U410 (I think that's the number?)

Thanks for the suggestion. I didn't even know the 3360 existed. Looks like a great deal. The only con is the screen. While the matte screen is a nice feature, looks like the brightness and contrast didn't review that well. Overall this may be the front runner though.

Sites always bitch and complain about brightness on matte screens. IMO, the clarity in bright conditions more than outweighs that factor.

Costco has the Dell Inspiron 13z (i5-3317u) on sale for $600. There isn't many reviews out, but it looks like a good deal at that price. Costco - Dell Inspiron 13z English Laptop Intel Core i5-3317U (mods feel free to remove if necessary).

Any comments on that one? While I do like the Vostro 3360, I'm really not a fan of it's look.
