Default Acer laptops quality?

I know Acer had quality issues in the past, but how are they now? I have seen a few good deals that are peaking my interest and am wondering if I should go for it, or bypass it because it is Acer?

My wife and brother in law have the exact same Acer laptops, and neither one of us has had even a hint of a problem ... going on one year of ownership at Christmas. They seem to be decently built units, no glaring issues that I can see.

If you can get a good deal on one, I say go for it.

They aren't too bad. I have had 2 RMA's with work ACER laptops (HDD failure *seagate, who's suprised lol* and LCD Failure). Out of 15 units its not too bad, their RMA service isnt' as fast as ASUS but it is still very good. And Local so it helps.

I say if you get a good deal on them its worth getting a laptop from them.

I have a gateway but everything in it is acer. Almost a year old and no complaints. They don't seem to be any better or worse than most other brands. Personally I'd only buy ASUS or Acer. ASUS is quality, great warranty and reliable - it costs more. Acer is average quality but the price reflects what it is.

Original Acer Aspire bought back in 2005 and still going strong today. Same goes for the battery. Probably due to the fact that for the last 3 years, we haven't used it much.

Acer Aspire 3820TG and use it at least 3 times a week. Very good and will buy it again.

I prefer Acer warranty over Asus and at least with Acer your more than likely going to get it fixed. I've sent several different units to Asus and all came back having to go back.

Despite the additional cost Acer also has one of the best warranties money can buy next to Asus.

Acer has gone through a SHIT load of changes in the last few years all for the better.

All very good to hear. Good to know I should not steer away from them in my great budget laptop bang for buck hunt.

Yep Ena is right. While acer have 2 step of quality, some are very awefull and some are very decent. Asus isn't going to fix the issue most of the time. If you can get a good deal on one make a few search about out of the box problem and if it seems right get it. You could also look at dell. They have a very decent service and their quality got very nice over time.

I've got an Acer 8930G which I've been using almost everyday for the last three years for everything including gaming. Good quality - no issues.

The funny thing about Acer is that those who are bitching about the crappy laptop they have bought it for stupid cheap at some big store like walmart or the such.

Find smaller stores that carry them and you usually get better models.
