Acer Aspire 5920-6574
So I just bought this laptop from NCIX. IT seems like a good deal and its pretty much exactly waht I am looking for:
However one thing that concerns me is what the specs of the laptop are. Looking at Acer's site, I only see the Acer Aspire 5920. This seems to be a modification of that but without the HD DVD drive maybe... anyone know where I could get a nice specs sheet?
I am not too worried about the quality. I've had Acers before and they are very good at support. I just wanna know more about what I got :D.
Anyway, I am excited! Finally a good lappy.
HA! I was looking at the same lappy today and saw only one left. Guess not anymore! Ya the Penryn CPU and specs look good but I had same prob... the Acer site is not showing the same setup as far as I can tell? I am now pondering this Asus G1S or the M1530.
Those are solid Lappies.. i like that Asus one too, wish I had the chance to get a nice Asus.
This one should be reasonable. I am not taking it to school so it should last, plus Acer support was great to me!
Wow... this actually looks decent! They posted specs on the page as well as a few more units.
I hope there are more people picking this up. 8 left! Mine will be arriving today, all the way from Vancouver! :D
Btw, this CPU is a Penryn 2.1 ghz! This thing is gona fly
Ya the Penryn is really tempting. But for me I need higher res than WXGA and the 8800GT is only GDDR2. Granted it is 512MB but I think I'd miss out on some DDR3 benefits? Still this is an awesome deal and if I was on a tighter budget the 5920 would get my $$ hands down :thumb:
you've bought a 5920G model. there is a 5920 line that's all Intel IGP, whereas the G line is dedicated graphics. very solid units! I have one of the $799 specials FS had back in December. specs are very similar to yours, only I have the T5250. go to Notebook and Laptop Reviews and check out the Acer forum. there's a lot of info about the 5920G line, with links on how to how to find drivers (there are XP drives available if you know where to look).
there are instructions on how to put the most up-to-date drivers from nVidia on there, even tho nVidia doesn't support their mobile graphics. just note they're not WHQL certified, so you can't legitimize any benchmarks you do.
I'll take a look at that site for drivers and stuff, but I don't often have issues finding drivers. It should be fine since its an intel chipset and OmegaDrivers has their Nvidia ivers out again. The only thing I don't know for sure is wha the sound card is, but I am assuming its Realtek.
Here are some benchies btw:
Oh I forgot to ask, does yours get ho like alot of reviews say? Mine doesn't seem to get hot too easily.. even if I am operating it on a bed or something that covers the vents it still seems quite cool.
hey Cheator, the laptop gets hot when I game...hot enough I don't want it anywhere near my lap! you shouldn't block the vents tho...I would find some sort of platform to put it on, if you're going to use it on your bed. there are some nice options that Staples carries which are basically boards with a bean bag secured to the underside. the bean bag forms to fit on your legs comfortably while the board forms a solid surface for the laptop and a mouse.
