It just depends on your needs, the upside of the X220 is that its really portable (12.5in and a very decent battery life, something like 8 hours with the 6 cells battery), the integrated GPU is at least very decent (I know this is not the best in the world, but gives an idea, look for Intel HD graphics 3000). In terms of CPU, you've got the choice...

So basicly that's why I added this one here, basicly what I understand with Lenovo is that you should never order and pay the full price, you should have look and find the special there is. In that case, the laptop comes down to about 750 if you do the upgrades throuh Lenovo, but you can also do them yourself.

Though I agree that for an on-the-road lappy - which will get banged around a lot - the Lenovos are hard to beat. They are really built for a rough usage. This one would be my pick, in your price range: Lenovo - Enhance your Lenovo IdeaPad Y570 - 086234U - Dusk Black . And from what I have read, the GT 555M is faster than the 5850M.

With the CAPSAVEINJUNE coupon code, the price is now 720$... damn. I just may it the Buy button.

I've got a EUROCOM Xcaliber which is getting a little old now but it has turned me into a Eurocom fan. Theyre Canadian as well which is nice. They have some kind of Student discount as well I believe. Might be worth a look.

I actually pulled the trigger on this one, and using this promo from RFD (http://forums.redflagdeals.com/lenov...prefixid=Comp9) I'll save another 50$. Total: 770$ taxes in, shipped.

From that link;this one caught my eye.ThinkPad X220 12.5" Laptop w/Core i5-2410M, Windows 7, 12.5" Premium HD (IPS) 1366x768 display, 2GB DDR3 RAM, 250GB 5400RPM HD, 6-cell battery - $786.75 plus $62.94 cashback

intel hd 3000 will be sufficient for basic 3d modelling. what i find most important about notebooks for school is portability, battery life and screen quality. This one has it all.

Yup, nice deals in there - including a W520 for 980$. I bought the Y570 because of the GT555M GPU, where the W520 has a Quadro 1000m. The upgrade to the 2000m (equivalent in performance) is 300$...

I recommend getting the t420 or x220 from the lenovo deal above.
Best bang for buck imo.
