Well... further investigation points to a simple (and relatively cheap) panel replacement not doing the trick WRT screen glare... the problem isn't with the panel, there is a edge-to-edge glass cover which is causing the main glare issues (glare is still present on black border of the monitor). Guess I'll have to keep looking for an anti-glare treatment (tape), and or pass this laptop off to one of my young-uns...... ;)
