Default Xoom for $800

Engadget brought the story a little while ago and its basically been confirmed the Mortorolla Xoom Android Honeycomb Tablet is going to cost 800 and need a verizon contract type thing. There is no way in hell that I would consider paying 800 for a tablet. Tablets are quite nice and I have uses for them but let us be realistic it is still a giant phone, and with the ipad starting at its 500 price point I really have to wonder what verizon is thinking.

So is 800 too much for a tablet or do you still want one desperately.

I wouldn't say desperately, but sure I'd like to get one. Like you mentioned though, $800 seems like a steep price to pay for a tablet. There are still quite a few Android tablets coming up later this year so don't worry about options right now.

They just priced themselves straight out of the market. Especially when you consider they REQUIRE you to buy a data plan to have access to WiFi.

Seriously? How can they control a data plan if you're using WIFI? That makes no sense considering it doesn't even run on their network! Forcing customers to buy a data plan is quite extreme. Screw the XOOM then

Makes perfect sense.

Using WIFI on a tablet or smart phone means your not using your data plan. So make it so that if you want to use wifi you need to use data.

Simple. Adding a data plan "unlocks" the WiFi ability.

This tablet runs off 3g :P

You sign up for data and you ENABLE the wifi as the cell phone companies don't want you to use wifi to not use their data plans.
