What devices can't you identify?

I ran into a similar issue with a gateway netbook (several different hardware configs under the same model #), but the intel driver package made it pretty easy for me... it does an auto detect and won't install if it doesn't see the hardware.

But it still shows you the device ID and vendor ID. Look them up and you will find out what you have.

yeah... open the properties and find number there like above poster said...

and how about bios?

it will tell a few information about hardware
NEW: customize case, hx100, i7 920, supreme hf, x58 sabertooth, 3gbx2 ram of ripjaws, xfx hd6950 CF. vertex 2 60gb, seagate and hitachi 1tb, dual mcp355 with ek rex v2, 2x koolance ar697, 2x mcr320, 6x zm-f3 fans.
OLD: cm 690, hx620, intel q9450, True Black, ga-ep45-ud3p, 2gbx2 ram of mushkin xp2 8500, xfx 285. wd caviar se16 640gb, 4x zm-f3 fans.

I gave up on Vista and installed Win7 - What a difference ( thank you JD ). At least there is diver support for all the hardware and I dont have to muck around with third party apps to get the info i need on hardware that is unknown.

For future reference: The most commonly forgotten drivers in my experience:

- Bluetooth
- Card reader(s)
- 56k modem (yes, some laptops still have them)

Grats on moving to windows 7, its far superior anyways, lol.

a bit late to the reply party lol, but everest is your best bud. itll see the devices,usually with a good degree of accuracy.

but then again, you moved up a few floors with w7 from bista

Default uhhh

Everest displays all kinds of stuff about my laptop...I got it without any discs and installed windows 7...Everest showed pretty much everything I needed to get drivers

edit....nevermind!...hahaha...dangit already mentioned Everest..."reading is fundimental"...hahaha
