My System Specs

Default Android on Fido!

Fido never offered any Android based devices before so for us Fido users this is a big deal. The hardware seems to be descent too. I'll be getting mine this week, anyone else?

I've heard the dual-core 1gb RAM machines are coming this season, but I bet it'll take another year for them to reach the Fido value line up.

pros: strong specs; the underclocked processor overclocks to 1ghz, 512MB ROM, 512MB RAM, high res display, quality touch-screen, tethering out of the box, android 2.1 included and 2.2 coming.

con: exterior quality is very average -- but sufficient.

Is overclocking worth it versus battery life?

many people claim not to notice a difference; I haven't -- but it must have some effect. the cpu frequency sclaes on demand which helps. when my phone is idle it scales down to 245Mhz.

but the point is that the cpu is underclocked from the factory and you have the option of a stable "overclock" on a rooted phone if you choose.

without touching voltage tweaks. big plus.

also, wasnt it supposed to go down further on idle? like 100 mhz or lower?

I don't know if it's related to my kernel or cpu, but I'm unable to go lower than 245Mhz.
