Whelp, the T410s is off my list. Average battery life tested in the reviews is between 3:30 and 4:10. With no option for a 9-cell and the possibility of a $145 CAD (!!!) 3-cell Ultra Bay add on, no thanks.

According to my conversation with a phone rep @ Lenovo, they have discontinued the matte screen option for the Thinkpad Edge. Way to go!

So, looks like we are back to square one. :(

well the Probook 4420s is within your specs, it just doesn't have the fancy ATI/nVidia discrete video
the Probook 6450b will have more jam in the video card department, but will weigh slightly more and cost more too obviously.

they all have matte finish screens standard

you are as likely to find a HP Probook in your local big-box store as you are an IBM think pad =P heh

So far I have to agree with John here, +1 to it. If you can work out a descent deal with Dell for the Latitude series, go for it, I have a e6510 and I'm fairly impressed with the build quality and screen quality.

Lenovo has been quite bad at stocking things, I looked at similar options as you SKY when I looked around, which was back in May-June, and they were still out of stock on certain models and configs.

Those Asus' look promising, 3yr warranty included too..!!

I think I made a decision. The screen size is a bit on the small side but the resolution more than makes up for it.

ThinkPad X201

Intel Core i5-520M
Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
12.1" (1280x800) 16:10 Matte Display
3GB DDR3
160GB HDD
9-Cell battery (11 hour battery life)
2-year on-site warranty

$971 w/Visa Perks

If the ThinkPad Edge was offered with a matte screen (they used to but stopped), I would have jumped on it. The Ideapad 401s is another option but it has the idiotic battery that comes in 6-cell or bust due to its location in the palm rest.

The new Vostros were an option as well but the screen flex disturbs me.

Thoughts??

12.1 is a lot on the small size. But everything else is great in such a small package. And you can't go wrong with Lenovo.

Yeah. 12.1 is a bit brutal. There just really isn't much else out there. IMO, Lenovo made a huge mistake by eliminating the ThinkPad Edge matte and then putting the brutal battery location on the 401s.

The 401s was supposed to take over from the X301 but why in the world would I want to go with an integraded battery that can't be upgraded and that pumps a ton of heat into my legs?

There really isn't anything else in the 13.1 to 13.3" space. :(

I hope you like it.... the 12.1 screensize would't bother me as much as the small keyboard that's going to be associated with it.

Keyboard is edge to edge and 100% size.

See, now I have this Sony Vaio deal in my head and I may sub out the SSDs for a single HDD. Or grab a Vaio Y with the new UM series ULV processor. Going to take a look at it tonight.
