Default Need a laptop for university-- HP envy 14?

So I found a brick-n-mortar shop selling an HP envy 14 for 999 bucks. 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 500GB HDD, ATI 5650 graphics and an Intel core i5-430M processor strapped to a 14" 720p-ish screen. I'll be playing recent games at 720p and low/med settings on it.

Looks pretty darn good for the price. Any ideas of alternatives under 1100? Also, is the refreshed envy line good quality, and how does HP's customer support stack up against the others?

I to am considering the Envy 14. I have no experience with it, but Engadget said it's a great laptop. Look into Asus, their N series is priced around their and they have pretty decent specs to. I don't know about HP's customer support, I sent them an email, and they responded yet:( Hopefully that's just me, as for their warranty I guess it's the same as most manufacturers.

I say go for it!

As for support, I'd imaging phoning HP would typically be faster to get a reply.

i also checked out the envy 14 but i dont know i think the build quality is bad imo.

I dont know which laptop to get :(. Envy looks soo nice but the macbook proo is like even nicer.

If macbook pro 13 had cor i3 i wud buy that..

i think u shud do more research untill u 100% sure its what u want.

envy 14 has way better specs i must say than macbook pro.

but i saw some video and the rubbery stopper thing was comming out (the rubber to protect screen from keyboard piece when closed)

I was looking at the Envy but have slowly chipped the pricey less important laptops with less features out, the Envy was included. I found alot of issues with the build quality (GPU switching+Heat buildup (Long term damage from heat?). And other small issues like you listed.

I'd recommend you take a look at the ASUS UL series (10+ Hours battery life, able to run MW2/Starcraft at bearable settings (MED)+ Warranty (2 years+1 year drop/fire/physical coverage), also dont need to manually switch the GPU/IGP--which makes life easier, simpler and less room for driver issues since you are directly supported from Nvidia.

I'll link you the two I am looking at right now...
