My System Specs

Default G51J A1 3DMk06 Score

No too up-to-speed on what these Notebooks are capable of "Benchingwise", anyhow here's my Mk06 / Vantage Scores, FYI. (Handy perhaps if searching for a "budget gaming Notebook".)

Turbo Mode "on"
GeForce Driver 195.62 WHQL
GTX260M @ Stock (nVidia Stock) 550 / 1375 / 950

btw....
Max Temps gaming reach 93c / Idle Temps 54 - 60c
Absolutely no "up-clocking / down-clocking" issues at with this new Driver (problems with previous versions stuck at 3D Clocks)
Tons of gaming have never had a single BSOD
Removed quite a bit of Asus "crapware" including all Creative crap.

3DMark 06 - 11,125
ORB - Compare

With Turbo Mode enabled and GTX 260M OC'd (575 / 1400 / 975)
3DMK06 - 11,422
ORB - Compare

Vantage P5991
ORB - Compare

With Turbo Mode enabled and GTX 260M OC'd (575 / 1400 / 975)
Vantage - P6106
ORB - Compare

Unsure why but Orb reports my GPU as a 170M, should in fact be a 260M ?!

Cheers

Mods go ahead and move to 3DMK06 / Vantage Sticky if its required.

Barb...unfortunately its EOL, however the replacement G51JX - A1 is the predecessor, same specs as mine only with a GTS 360M instead of the GTX 260M. Some info on it here:

Asus G51Jx-A1 15.6" FHD LED/Core i7 720QM/NV GTS 360M 1GB GDDR5/6G DDR3/500G/W7HP64: GenTech PC Store
Asus G51Jx-A1 w/ GTS 360m (GDDR5), now available for pre-sales!

Got it at the end of Nov from NCIX (wanted $1599), price matched to some online Notebook Sales Co in Quebec, so $1525, which I thought was reasonable considering the Specs.

Hmm- it says those 360 models are in stock- that possible?

Edit- also how do you think the mobilr 5870 compares to the 360

I am waffling between the one you posted and the G73JH-A1- great prices on that site- thanks, I wasn't aware of it.

^^ American Site though...Duty, Brokerage Fees etc etc.
The G51JX A1 with GTS 360M I believe are "Pre-Sales" only at this point, I believe they're to be "Officially Released" in the next few days, they come with 6GB DDR3 vs my 4Gb DDR3.

Some of the guys have been Posting some Vantage / 06 results with the G73JH A1 with ATI 5870 and thier numbers are certainly higher then mine, but not by much. I believe (from the info I've read on the Notebook Forum - see link below), the best thing about the ATI 5870 M is that it runs considerably cooler than the 260M.

I actually wanted a 15.5" vs a 17".......something a little smaller.
btw..the 15.5" screen is true HD 1920 x 1080 ;)

See below FYI

Not exactly the same model Asus G51J....

What a powerhouse this computer is Bob!! Currently using it for just general word applications and browsing the web, however knowing whats under the hood persay makes me a little geedy. I am most enviest of the owner a 70+ year old man, lol. He was so tired of the garbage that he had purchased in the past he wanted something that was not short of speed and graphic capabilities. Canada Computer was tasked with the job of recommending a formidable laptop and they didn't fail to deliver, not mentioning a hefty pricetag to go along with it. That being said its great looking machine, most productive and nothing seems to slow it down a great investment for the shortterm and long.

^^^ Yeah it truly is Adam....I didn't really know much Notebooks when I got it, but figured I'd have to spend over 2K to get this kind of performance....

The SSD has put the thing over the edge......was the first suggestion Linus had when he knew I got...."Get an SSD".....

Cheers....hope all is well back east ;)

I will post 3d Mark 06 and Vantage scores of my ASUS G73JH-A1 when it gets here, hopefully this week they ship mine, I'm suppose to be next in line now.

I'll post benchmarks with the stock 500gb drives and than my Intel G2 80GB SSD to see the differences.

Can't wait

While running 3Dmark, what was the CPU temp? And is the HSF loud under load? I have a customer looking into this lappy, and I don't know much about the line.

^^^ Different Model / GPU then my G51J....pointless to post Temps up...no idea what my CPU hit under Vantage load...not concerned at all, its more the 260M Temps that I monitor...its a "performance" Notebook, they don't run cool while gaming / benching ;)

I did notice my Temps have gone down a few degrees since replacing both HDD's with 2 x SSD's...
