Default Is there a general driver for laptop webcams?

My LG laptop doesn't seem to have a webcam driver for WinXP.

I'm sure various other people had the problem of not being able to use their integrated webcams
due to the failure that was Vista, and the downgrades that followed.

Thus I was wondering if there was anyway of either
1)finding out the specifics of the webcam hardware via a hardware monitoring program
2)finding a general driver for integrated laptop webcams

So, anyone know if 1 or 2 is a possibility?

Hi Aero,
I have an LG laptop too! It's an E300, love it! I'm using windows 7 on mine and I haven't had any problems, I can programs such as skype without a problem with audio and video. For drivers you should be able to find them on the LG website. I assume you're in canada so you can go here ( LG Product Support ) just look for the driver under netbooks or notebooks They have drivers for both XP and Vista. You didn't say what model you have so that's as useful as I can be.
Depending on your desired use there are several progams that you can try one of them beings Windows power toys for XP ( Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP ). Hope this helps

Thanks for the comment.

My laptop is the P300 with T9300 and 8600M GS.
Only available in Korea.
Got it during my trip there couple years ago.

Only 13.3" Laptop in the market that had that sort of power.

Haven't had any luck with LG sites, but I'll give the Microsoft powertoys a shot.
Thanks.

That laptop was also available in Canada, I had a hard time not blowing the cash on it, lol. No idea why you want to stick with XP on that? I have Vista on my lappy (T7500, 3GB, 8600M GT) and it runs great. If you're such a Vista hater you should get Win 7. XP is is like 9 years old (that's 10,000 years in computer years). Although I have read the odd Win7 driver issue on that model as well for the time being. Doesn't seem to be consistant though so it might just be user errors.

Indeed.

I've had vista on it, didn't like it as much, so downgraded back to XP.
I have copies of Vista Ultimate x64 and Win7 Ult x64 on me, but I'm too lazy to organize my files
and back em up at the current time then go searching for vista/win7 drivers and reinstall the whole
thing over (since I never like "upgrading", a clean install is the only way I feel everything will run as
planned, and no useless dregs of data will be left behind.)

Found pages for the T8100 P300s, lets see if there is any driver support.

And there we go...
No XP support for the Webcam. Bah

I looked around and found only 1 thread with any information that was helpful. Guess its called LG SmartCam 1.3mp. This is for a different model but should be the same webcam.. Last post. Give it a shot
DRIVER NEEDED: LG Electronics notebook smart cam 1.3 mp (Windows XP Professional) - DriverGuide Support Forums

Thank you for the comment.

I found out that whatever driver Windows finds for the webcam is actually sufficient enough to make
the webcam work. I tried out one of the Windows Power toys that is specifically for the webcam, and
the webcam responds. Resolution is not what it used to be with the proper drivers, but it seems to work
nonetheless.

Now I have to find a general purpose webcam program and I'll be good :)
