Default Ultraportable ~ USD500 - impossible?

Well I'm looking for an ultra-portable, that is under 500 USD, the max I can go for is 700USD but seriously prefer it around 500.
Anyway, I've looked around and right now kinda like the Asus UL30V but its kinda expensive. I really don't know what else to look at, the HPs looks kinda terrible.

Here's where I need your help, please help me buy an ultraportable that is
-~500 USD
- maybe good looking (:P)
-~500 USD

Not sure if you can give points out or do something to give to helpers, but I'll at least rate your post very high. ^__^. Thanks.

I know of the Acer Timeline series, they look like they might fit the bill

NCIX.com - Buy Acer Timeline 3810TZ-4009 Intel Pentium SU2700 3GB 320GB 13.3IN WLAN Vista Prem Notebook - LX.PE60X.119 In Canada.

They have a smaller 11.6 inch for $499, thats more of a netbook though. If you search Acer Timeline on NCIX there's a few results on there.

The Timeline is a decent option, I have the 3810TZ with the SU2700, which can be slow at times, even with 4gb of RAM and a SSD. But if you're regularily maintaining(scanning, cleaning, defragging on non-SSD) while making sure you have no crapware, then it shouldn't be too bad.

thanks, I totally forgot about the Timeline. To coriolis, is it still faster than atom? I'm buying for a non-computer kind of girl, so I guess speed shouldn't be the most important but atom is slow!! Any other suggestions too?

I own both the ASUS EEE 1000h which has a 1.6ghz N260(I think?) Atom and the Timeline is much faster I find. I'd definitely say its a small step up anove the N260, the SU2700. But the SU7300 or even the SU9600 would obviously be much better.

If I recall:

SU2700: 1.4ghz Single Core
SU7300: 1.3ghz Dual Core
