netbook is perfect tool for school?

i am trying to get one for my school...

i will need to use

- office word
- speech to text program (speech recognition)
- internet... just general use such as email, research, etc... wifi and bluetooth would be cool...
- webcam for messenger or other IM (i am concern how quality it is... i hope its smooth)
- good quality speakers... (my laptop is too low or weak... even the volume is at maximum)...
- good microphone (possible?) or get this ::: Zalman, leading the world of Quiet Computing Solutions :::
- battery life should be more than 2 hours...

about OS... i am not sure... but i think xp would be safe choice... if vista is not bothering by low-end then fine... i would like to install win7 but i am not sure about if win7 can support most programs...

more small would be nice...

i dont care how powerful the netbook is... cheapest netbook can do this? but i still prefer reasonable quality and price... i dont want crappy or unreliable netbook...

This is supposed to the the new AMD based netbook killer- better value, but I think it should be cheaper- might be worth shopping around for.

that "laptop" have a lot of features except webcam... on monday (i think) i will go to check some electronic stores such as best buy...

i dont need any optical drive (usb rules)

anyway its good deal...

I've got the Acer Timeline. It has a camera, it's decently fast, 320GB HDD, 4GB of ram, and an SU2700 processor.

wow thats very cheap... probably very good value... but no bluetooth... honestly, is it real important?

whats wrong with atom? amd is still slowing...


i check acer timeline is which not bad ( it had webcam and microphone)... but 700ish is little too steep... 9 hours battery life for almost premium laptop... is it possible?


jcmaz, so you owned zalman microphone? is it very sensitive and good nose canceling? can you put microphone on the table and you speak at about 1 meter away from that microphone on the table?

they got webcam and microphone (i hope they are good... i will find out)

just curious about "watt 1 and 2" for speaker... how different is that? i dont think so...

IMO no cheap and small netbook will ever have good enough speakers.....

hmmm... is it possible to do mod... just swap speaker with better speakers?

it would be funny if i bring netbook (laptop) with regular size speakers at my school... maybe you know if there is any external speaker?

It is definitely a great mic. I've had compliments using it when gaming, and if I forget to attach it to my headphone cable, and its ~1.5m behind my on my bed people still rarely complain that I am too quiet.
