Default Older dell XPS value?

I've got a dell xps that's about 5-6 years old now and sees little use. I was wondering what it could be worth since I'm having a hard time finding a similar model to price. Its got:
P4 3.4ghz Prescott processor with hyper threading
1gb dual channel @ 2.5-2-2 (forget Tras and if its ddr2 or ddr 400)
Radeon 9600M Pro 128mb graphics
8x DVD burner
80gb harddrive
DVI/VGA output
15.6" screen.. I've got all original discs and the adapter.

The bad news: The battery no longer holds a charge, and there are a couple scratches on the back of the screen. And, containing a desktop processor, it is about 2" think, fans can get loud and weighs 10lbs.

Even though it still performs well and I've never had any hardware issues with it, I don't know if I could get a worthwhile amount selling it simply due to its noise and lack of portability.

Imo, I would just give it to an organization that will send it to school kids in Africa or something. You won't get much for it and really, anyone who just needs a simple laptop for web/email etc... can buy a brand new (and lighter) one starting at ~$450 or netbook for less.

The fact that it has no battery life left would reduce that IMO.

I'd say its nearly worthless as it's not exactly a laptop as there is no portability, even with a working battery portability would be questionable, so the only target I can see for this is some newbie who just needs to get on the internet and stuff and they won't be carrying it around.

Check out this website, a user on here has had success with it: Sell Your Laptop for Cash, Used or Broken We Will Buy It, We Give You Cash for Your Old Laptop - LaptopsBuyer.ca

I agree with Thunderball it has far more worth in the hands of a child or someone less fortunate than selling it for a small of cash. I gave my girlfriends old computer away to gentlemen which in turn donated it to an old folks home he was most appreciative, unfortunately the "wife" doesn't let me forget the fact that I gave it away for free

Jokes aside it was an Emachines AMD Sempron based pc, bloody POS wasn't worth a dime anyway, lol

After so many years of all nighters and school projects I don't know if I could charitably surrender her. I think I may just put her to graze as a downloads machine or something. I'm not sure what XPS it is, I don't have the documentation with me, also I recall being on the dell site a while back and being able to select models of XPS which they no longer have selectable. I believe mine is one that is no longer on their records. That cash for laptops site seems alright, may do that if I never need some moula. Thanks all

I've got a battery-less Compaq R4000 (A64 3500+ S939) that I hold onto for dinking around with (its my operating system guinea pig) it HAS no battery, lol (although, I can raid the battery from a pretty much decrepit R3000)

You could scrap it and maybe use some of the components for a budget HTPC. That cpu would do the trick just fine. Find a used asrock board that has both agp and pci-e, an older model gpu and you're on your way.

DELL XPS LAPTOP!! Pentium 4 3.4GHz 15.4" Titanium NR!!! on eBay.ca (item 170369465342 end time 13-Aug-09 21:15:09 EDT)

That would be my setup exactly except the hard drive is a pinch bigger but mine has a dvd burner. I would be including a pci wireless card too and the backpack rather than doing a different auction. If he can get 320$US I don't see why I shouldn't get any less with an included fancy backpack and dvd burning capability. Does a Stewie bumber sticker reduce value? oops..
That one even has the toasted battery like mine.

I also have all original discs and manuals, which sounds nice on a resale point since I'd seem collected enough to keep what is important.
