Default Decent laptop for the price $999???

I just ordered this puppy here:

http://h20386.www2.hp.com/CanadaStor...dv6-1264ca.pdf

It came on sale for $999.99 over at FS...only bad thing is that I'll get it-in in a few days, they are still in Toronto right now.

AMD Turion™ X2 Ultra ZM-82 Dual-Core Mobile Processor

4096MB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)

ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4650 (M96) with up to 2815MB total available
graphics memory with 1024MB dedicated

500GB (5400RPM) Hard Drive (SATA)

This comes with Vista home Premium 64 Bits SP1

I'm mostly an Intel/nVidia fanboy, but for the price, it seemed to me a decent deal.
I'll go features over raw performance this time around...

The GFX chip seems decent enough to play a few games..

Your thoughts?

On the second morning of the sale, those laptops are already out of stock. Good thing I payed up front for mine.

Should be decent, though I prefer Intel CPUs. I don't really believe AMD's are quite as power efficient yet though I haven't really looked into it extensively.

It looks like a nice system for a "large" laptop, but the first thing I'd do is upgrade the slow fragile HDD to a high-performance SSD.

Too bad they don't sell it without storage.

I think it`s a great bang for the buck! It`s not a mobile gaming powerhouse but it`ll do her just fine. Good laptop!

Nice price, my only issue is the AMD proccesor. How does that score to any intel offerings?

Been lookin at laptops myself and don't want to derail this thread but what do you guys think about this? Lenovo Ideapad Y550 with GT130M Bit of a sketchy site but they got an office near my house

Well,

I'm happy with it. For the price...if you fork $300 more, you'll get more of course.
This Turion X2 Ultra compares to a T5600 series Intel CPU. I throtles down to 500mhz to save power...of course, this lappy came with a 6 cell battery, so no battery-life benchmarks top scores here...he he...

It has the Western Digital Scorpio Blue 500GB in it.
Artheros WIFI b/g/n
Bluethooth ,HDMI
The ATI GFX card is HD4650 1 Gig GDDR3 (I checked) as there is cheaper DDR2 ones on the market.
The Turion ULTRA has more cache and more power saving features than other Turion X2s..
Ram is DDR2-800...

16" -1366 X 768 (720P), the screen is glossy, which is not appreciated but lots of people...

It plays Doom3 maxed out,
I get 75 FPS average in COD4 high detail, no AA, in online MP...
Half-life 2 lost coast benchie scores 50FPS...
I installed a bunch of games on it, but I'll mostly use it for RTS/RPG games and watching movies to keep me entertained while being away from home...
