From one mobile computing member to another, depending on your use, you might fancy a second hard disk drive. I reckon that Apple sells kits to convert your optical bay into a second, hotswap-syle hard disk drive. Look at it this way: it's easier to carry a slim external USB optical drive than a USB hard disk drive.

My best advice, having used various versions of the Mac OS since the mid 90s and only really getting into Windows in the past decade, is to not approach and try to use Mac OS X like you would use Windows.
You really have to ignore how you expect to use an OS(windows) and start new.

Remember that pretty much everything you see in the finder is the actual file - not a shortcut. This is also true for the applications folder, you delete something there and it is deleted, that is why there's hardly any uninstallers in OS X. The dock however is all shortcuts obviously.

I've used Macs for years (I've got a Mac Pro and Macbook Pro that aren't in my sig) so I probably help you will a lot of questions

Thanks, Ya i knew about that. It's not like i have never used a mac. But my first experinces were say dissapointing. (LCII ring any horrid bells).

I have never played with an LC II.. got an LC 575 and Performa 580CD among others though. :P
It is interesting how Apple put a trinitron in the LC 575 even though it was supposed to be a low cost machine.

i should find out when the college near my house does another purge of macs. Last time they got rid of some G4 towers super cheap (around $200)

You could change the RAM in your sig to DDR3 - instead of DDR II

I was playing with one today (not sure what model... it was white with a lit up apple logo on the top cover.... ) and two things came awfully close to having me toss it out the window.........

1/ No touch sensor on the track pad. You have to use the actual mouse button to select (drove me absolutely nuts within 5 minutes).

2/ No backspace key (Delete goes back..... ).
