Default Tf2 Laptop

Hi guys, I've been looking for a budget laptop that can run Tf2 on medium-high with ease. Size is not relative, but somewhere between 14-18" is the best (Try playing on a 12" screen). The only thing that really matters is the aesthetics and the price. Looking for something around $1100 total. If you find something a bit over, I will see if it is worth the money. I appreciate anyone that helps.

Hell no. 9400M is great for low power mobile computing, but the Atom just won't cut it in terms of playing games. The Source engine is very CPU intensive.

Take a look at Newegg and view some of the computers in that price range. I usually go there and then buy from NCIX.

Due to the down-turn in the American economy, there are some great deals to be had state-side. Here are links to notebook specific forums that have buy/sell sections. There are most brands available, some virtually brand new. I have got good deals off both forums. Good luck.

I have a Dell Vostro 1500 notebook with a GeForce 8600m GT 256MB GDDR2. It will run Team Fortress 2 on maximum detail at a fast 40 frames per second. When there over 20 players, things sometimes chip down to 25 frames per second, but I am confident it is a processor-bound weakness.

There are 8600m GT-equipped notebooks on the market for under $800 everywhere.

i think with 1100 you could easily buy a shuttle pc, small monitor, and add an 8800gt.

Thanks everyone for the response. The one i've mainly been looking at is the Asus F50SV-A1. It's on sale now and it has a P8600 and a 120M GT. Would this be sufficient for TF2?

The only thing is I am looking for a laptop for university as well. I don't think my profs would like it if I showed up to class with a mini lan rig :D

If you are looking for a school notebook I would not go with a 16". I would say 15.4" maximum. So having said that let's see what I find with a quick search.

Newegg.ca - ASUS F81 Series F81Se-X1 NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo P8400(2.26GHz) 14.1" 4GB Memory 320GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4570 - Laptops / Notebooks

Dell Studio 15 Laptop Details

Those will kill TF2 no problem and still be plenty mobile :)

Last night I tried playing CS:S on a T61p 6457-5KU (T7700 2.4GHz, 4GB RAM, Quadro FX570M 256MB) and it held up pretty well.
Average frame rates I'd say were around 60-70, with dips down to 40-50 with lots of stuff happening.

Played at 1280x800, all settings on high / 16X AF / NO AA or HDR.

I'll try putting on TF2 if I have some time and see how that goes.
