What can I do to prevent damages to a laptop?

I heard it's common to inflict a vertical line across the lcd screen due to shock or other outside force. What can I do to prevent such as mishap and other possible damages?
Thanks

Matias Laptop Armor

Nuff said :thumb: I have one for my Dell Studio 1555 and the thing would probably take a car rolling over it. Super-solid.

dont drop it. serious

every-day use will not generate the shock needed to pooch the laptop screen.

Now, if you know the laptop will be treated harshly... use a Panasonic toughbook. The oilfield clients of mine put those through hell and back.

I put my XPS m1330 in my backpack that has a little laptop compartment (basically just a thin foam barrier). And I toss my school books in my bag as well. Haven't ruined my laptop yet and I've been through a school year.
