Yeah thats a damn nice Laptop indeed.....now..having purchased a couple in the last 3 yrs (both my kids got them for Grad gifts)...they both swear by the smaller 15.5" style vs the larger ones....for "being more portable" and convenienet...you just may want to double check with him on that...but really nice specs and I will attest that both of my kids Laptops are ASUS and have been completely trouble free.

Oh, I wasn't suggesting he get a Vostro--just that he might want to see if Dell has any specials on...even if they are the devil.

I recently sold a ASUS G50V and got a Sager because it got upgradable graphics.
Now I see that NCIX are going to carry Eurocon ,they have upgradeable graphics as well and look like a really good option. I wouldn't buy a ASUS again just because you can't upgrade the video, and even if you can find a card it won't work. Not ideal if you game.
I think when you spend that kinda money you should be able to upgrade when you see fit.

For gaming, these are some good brands; Alienware, MSI, Asus, Maybe Eurocom etc.

BTW, that`s a lot of money to spend on a gaming laptop! Whatever you get for that price, it will be atrue desktop replacement, it`ll be a crazed speed demon!

Build yourself an Alienware M17x

You can get up to a qaud 2.53 and dual nvidia 280m's - although that'll run you a bit above $3000, for a cheaper option you get a dual 2.93 GHz with either dual 260's or 280's
