DO NOT GET AN ACER! Especially a refurb. We get those brought back to the store daily. If I had a nickel for every Acer I've seen dead....

You can probably pick up an HP or Toshiba from BB or FS with a T3200-T5550 C2D, 14"-15", 2-4GB Ram. You can definitely get an Acer with good specs on paper, but quality is always a gamble with them. Too bad you weren't looking over the holidays. Laptops were starting at ridiculous prices. At Dell you can probably get an Inspiron 1525, similar specs as above. There's also Dell refurbs.

Why the hate? I got an Acer Aspire 5601 with 2GB RAM and I love it. Problem free since I got it 3 years ago.

Go to RedFlagDeals. Every once in a while, someone will post some good deal on a laptop.

I just see them broken almost everyday and with the most stupid problems... The newer models are ok (ones built within the past year or less) but anything older appears to be garbage... Unless your extremely lucky.

Funny, it's about the exact opposite from what I've seen. 8 dead HP's (the DV series) in the last 2 months that have blown SB chips, and that all happens about a month after the warranty expires.

Don't even get me started on Toshiba's.

Acer (also Emachine and Gateway) would be one of my first choices along with a Dell if I were going to buy from a major manufacturer. My old Aspire 3010 is still kicking after about 6 years and I have never had an issue.

I would have to disagree. I have had NO Acer problems at all. Compaq and Dell on the other hand.........:censored:
