can you format the drive in another machine?


you said you havn't tried that yet...I'd try that before getting a new drive

Both Toshiba and IBM laptops use a special maintenance token connected to the serial or USB port (depending on age of machine) that can be used to reset the supervisor or HDD passwords. (or of course sending the machine in for service) I'm not sure about how Acer may do theirs but the tokens for IBM and Toshiba show up every now and then on eBay so you might look there. Just a thought.
