Nope - no modding of the "lip" whatsoever. The screws are pretty much right up against it, but it works out so that the screws come out perfectly straight from the fan mount holes.

Yup - the screws are flush against the fin, but I did not have to cut any part of the fin or lip away. Perfect fit.
