Default ASUS rt-ac66u router

after returning 2 faulty negear routers (r6300{no switch leds - only for baby fingers & N900 super slow interface, crappy speed) i thought i would try ASSus.

pros:
looks great.
i like the vertical mount option.
lots of room in back of unit to plug and unplug (big fingers)
clear and logical gui

cons:
needs weekly reboot.
firmware unstable.
wifi radio off/on sheduling does not work.......(radio will turn off but never turn back on)
massive and wasteful packaging for little unit.
no wifi ON/OFF button.

online support is terrible...they will tell you you need to update the firmware when they know that their
new firmware has not been released yet. Tech guys uneducated, unresponsive and fail to resolve reason for call.

performance is just fine.....no worth over 100 bucks....in my opinion...

Is it just me or has average hardware build quality gone to shit?

Not sure how this is a member review...

Did you update to latest firmware? I'd return it and get the ASUS RT-N16: ASUS RT-N16 4 Port Gigabit Wireless N Router With 2x USB 2.0 Ports

ASUS puts out some great routers, and the RT-N16 is one of them. Flash it with DD-WRT! I want to get one too but I can't return my Linksys E900 anymore. Plus the RT-N16 is double of what I paid for the E900...

I've never used Asus firmware, just automatically loaded on Tomato or DD-WRT.

The hardware is very good then....
