I ended up calling them to see i could find out some more info about the laptop before i bought it. The customer service lady was well informed and answered my questions regarding customization, additional components and i got another 100 dollars of the sale price tag.
Right of the bat i have one slight issue: Customization
The Thinkpad line is easily customizable but the Ideapad line is pre configured i think it would have been nice to be able to configure this line as well to get those little nifty things.
I said i would never buy an ATI card lol i guess it has come that day, Im no longer an ATI virgin after 25 years i have bought with my own money an ATI card i have been given an ATI card before but never bought i think i had to mention that.
Please post some pics when you get it. Quite interested in this unit.
Dashock, what's the final price you paid. I have a feeling you might have paid more.
Can't wait to see your review off course. Unfortunately that is the very reason I didn't buy an Ideapad, can't even customize the screen.
Dont worry my friend i will be taking lots and lots of pictures for yeall.
Update : So I got my Sleve today it was shipped on the 18th from The Peoples Republic of China. Still waiting on my Helena aka Y560 apparentely i might be in for a couple of days due to custom processing. So we will see how long it actually takes. The Shaggy mac arrived after 3 days of ordering which i think is extremely fast. I will be taking a couple of pictures of that as well.
I ordered on the 13 tommorow is officially 14 days from that UPS tracking still is useless says cannot find info.
Guys ive finally got it ordered on the 13th so its taken its time frankly i mean even i found this too be a little long to arrive but i cant imagine the avg user wanting to wait 3 weeks for their system but hey maybe im just impatient.
Well i was taking pictures of everything for you guys when i noticed my user manual is all in french. Now for my brothers in Quebec if you were wondering yes they do cater to your needs. However its not so great for me so i called them and asked if it was a mistake as i got an English version of all other documents. See now normally i would not care but as this has a lot of features i do not know how to unlock it would be nice to have a guide . So i called them up and a rep was like ohh they have made a mistake with all y560 orders sending french instructions just go on the website and u will see a PDF file. I was like fine its better then nothing i go on and to my surprise they do not have the user guide on their website for the Y560. A little peeved i call them back got another rep and she has the assumption no user guides were supposed to be included with the laptop. Im sorry but i wanted to tell her are you frackin retarded. No user guide for a laptop.....
I was like that does not make any sense could you check again she puts me on hold and comes back saying u can use the guide for the y550 i proceeded to tell her there are features exclusive to the y560 example switchable graphics that the guide does not have. she puts me on hold again and this time says she has sent me the guide through email. Seriously Lenovo not a good start.
The outside shell is eye catching but not a finger magnet. The Speakers are impressive.
Couple of worries : Looking at unboxing of other Ideapads on Youtube there were blue film protection on both the screen and the surrounding keyboard. Mine had a plastic film around the top by the speakers and a thin piece of cloth on the keyboard to protect the keyboard and screen i presume. Film protection around the screen would have been nice but thankfully nothing happened to the screen.
Update: I dont know if the lady got the wrong email but i did not receive anything so i had to end up calling again thought id do the manager approach but was told managers are all busy. So i decided to give this 3rd rep a try and see if he could solve the problem and he did he gave me the link to Lenovo India who magically have the user guides for both Y460 and Y560 available.
Lenovo Ideapad Support & downloads - User Guides and Manuals
That is the link to the Lenovo India this issue seems to be only for the Y560/Canada as they are blaming having to send both French and English versions and claim they want to make it easier for people to having the user guide available online. I do not know about the rest of you but i prefer to have a hard copy of a user guide.
Anyways back to work. Update tommorow with pictures.
Be sure to keep us updated! I was going to bite on this notebook when RFD and Lenovo had a promotion going on.
Good to see you finally got your laptop Dashock. Usually at the point when you first receive the laptop, I would say you were just an unlucky customer, but after 3 reps, that is not good service from Lenovo.
Makes me wonder if they are just concentrating more on their business Thinkpads that they left the worse part for the Ideapads. It is almost what Dell do, call center for their business line of laptops is located in Ontario, same with Lenovo, but for Dell the consumer notebooks call center located in India, by the link you posted, it looks like it is the same for Lenovo too.
Dashock did you get an OS DVD (Win 7 Recovery disk), coz' if you did, would suggest to perform a clean install, most consumer notebooks come with lots of unwanted bloatware..
