My System Specs

Default OCZ Vertex 60GB in XPS m1330

Well I finally made the plunge into the SSD world. First thought right away was, "Wow my laptop is silent!". Literally is because the CPU fan (only fan on the thing) doesn't turn on until it's pretty warm. And it's a T8100 with Intel X3100 graphics, so doesn't get too hot quickly.

From pressing the power button to the Windows 7 (x64) login screen is around 15s Few more seconds for me to swipe my finger and have it login. Quite impressive IMO.

Everything in general opens far faster and Windows 7 finally feels fluid on my laptop. Guess that 5400RPM drive really was slow.

It came with FW1.4 which I've updated to 1.5. Disabled page file, SuperFetch, System Restore, Windows Defrag, Defender, and some other useless services. Still have Windows Search, but I've set the indexing to Start Menu only (I hate clicking through the start menu). Also disabled GUI boot, not sure if that makes it any faster though.

Battery life, I don't really know. I have a 9-cell battery and was already doing like 6h on it. Don't have any specific numbers to compare with though, but that's not a huge concern to me.

Anyways onwards with the photos and benchmarks...

I did a similar upgrade last week. 120GB Vertex. Dropped boot times from about 3 mins to 30 sec, and dropped temps from low 70s to high 40s/ mid 50s typical.

Like a new laptop.
