Here is an update on the email I sent Auzentech support reguarding the headphone amplifier. "Thank you for contacting Auzentech. Yes, the headphone amplifier is applicable to both rear and front headphone jack. The difference is that the Auto-mute feature is available for Front jack only. We recommend our customers to use the rear heaphone jacek if you want to get the best sound. Because, (It can be different accroding to the PC) during the signal is transfered through the cable of FP_Audio, there is minute difference of quality between them. Should you have any questions, please let us know. Sincerely, " So there you have it, amplifier is working on both outputs but they recommend the rear port. After doing some more testing I'd have to agree, I notice on occasion I'll hear a little static or popping sound when using the front port but I haven't experienced this with the rear port yet. This is most likely do to interference from my video card and the front audio cable. Either way I continue to enjoy unbelievable sound quality with this card it and truly is worth every penny. |

As I stated if I had to choose I'd go with the cable, but having both options would have been ideal for everyone. |

Thanks a lot for the excellent review! Based on mainly this review and a few others I pulled the trigger and ordered one. Now I just have to wait for NCIX to ship it...

I am late to the game, but great review! Great pictures, great text. ONe small negative. If you could make some paragraph in the main body of the text it would help the reading experience.

2) Any word on if the D-sub cable will be sold separately for spares? Last edited by aenagy; March 15, 2009 at 07:00 AM. Reason: Added question about D-sub cable. |

Not precisely a soundcard's memory, no. It would simply help with taking a bit of a load off of the rest of your hardware, leaving them to work on showing you the more important things, like that nuke that just went -

1) X-RAM provides a benefit only in software that supports it, if a game doesn't support X-RAM then it is just as well your card doesn't have it. This is why I listed it as a con. Right now the only software I know supports it is Doom 3, Quake 4, Battlefield 2, Prey, UT2003, UT2004, and F.E.A.R.. However, I've heard the anything using OpenAL supports use of X-RAM but gains are minimal and vary from game to game. Some OpenAL games include: Bioshock, Gears of War, GRID, Mass Effect, STALKER and STALKER Clear Sky, Ghost Recon Advanced War Fighter, and America's Army. These games should at least recognize and make use of the X-RAM but really won't provide much of an advantage. 2) Knowing Auzentech if you needed a replacement cable they would provide you with one, maybe even free of charge. They have great support. I will say I continue to LOVE this card and it is easily one of the best components in my PC. Creative's ALchemy works excellent as well.

Many seem to understand that ANY game has to be specifically programmed for it but as it turns out if the game is based around the OpenAL API any audio buffers are automatically sent through the X-RAM. This means that X-RAM automatically accelerates OpenAL games without extra coding in the games audio engine. How much X-Ram actually acclerates the audio has not been heavily tested. I am pretty sure if the game uses the Direct sound API, then the designers need to add coding for X-RAM usage. Last edited by Robscix; March 17, 2009 at 05:41 PM. |

When I purchased my Forte a few days ago, it came with the standard sized slot, and no changing was necessary. It seems they realized that the low profile crowd wasn't sufficient enough to justify them shipping it with the low profile slots.
