Antec Spot Cool & OCZ Rally2 8Gb Drive Review Today we look at two products that do not have anything in common with each other, However the products in the spotlight are gems that deserve to be recognized.
So shall we get to it......
Up first we got the Antec Spot Cool Fan:
These are the Specs according to Antec's Website: Lets Get to it:
The Antec Spot Cool fan is easily mountable on any motherboard by
securing it to a motherboard mounting hole. The Fan boasts 4 Blue
Led Lights as well as three settings Low, Medium, High.
Antec has built this fan to cool down any component inside your
computer such as: Ram, Video cards, Motherboard components etc.
The Fan is very easy to adjust to the desired position and with a little manipulation you can rotate the fan to cool down any desirable component.
Test Bed: Intel Xeon E3110 @ 3.0ghz
XFX 8800 GT Alpha Dog Edition
Asus P5Q-E
Mushkin Ascent Redline 8000 4gb DDR2
OCZ 600W GameXstream
Coolermaster Cosmos S The XFX 8800GT/Cpu is watercooled with the following components: MCR-320-QP/ 6X Noctua NF-P12'S/ Swiftech Mcw-60/ Swiftech Micro-Res/ Swiftech Mcp655/ Swiftech Apogee GT.
Instalation: I have used the Antec Spot Cool fan for about a year on 2 different rigs cooling different components, smacked it around and it has still performed like it was brand new. The fans are both used to cool the Memory on the Xfx 8800GT as well as the mofsets. Since i do not have any active cooling as i am using a gpu block the Zalman heatsinks need air to keep the ram modules running cool. The Antec Spot Cool fan keeps the temperatures of both components at low temperatures.
Setting up the fan was very easy take off a screw connected to your motherboard, which is secured to the backplate of your case and install the fan and replace the screw. Adjusting the fan was very easy too once set the Antec Spot Cool fan does not shake or move it stays firmly in place life. Testing: Idle: Gpu- 34 Ram- 26 Gpu Ambient- 30 Testing Setup using Gpu Caps Viewer @ 1000/1000 @ 8Mins:
Stress testing using Gpu Caps Viewer:( Non Overclocked) 8 Min Run- Gpu- 38 Ram- 30 Gpu Ambient- 34 Testing Setup using Gpu Caps Viewer @ 1000/1000 @ 8Mins: (Overclocked) Idle: Gpu- 35 Ram- 26 Gpu Ambient- 30 Stress testing using Gpu Caps Viewer:(Overclocked) 10 Min Run- Gpu- 40 Ram- 31 Gpu Ambient- 36
Test Setup
Results: Temps across the board from idle to load went up 4 degrees across the board a very respectable margin. The Antec Spot cool fan was set on high during the tests to see the best performance of the fan cooling the ram/mofsets on the video card. When Overclocked the Temps increased by 5 degrees from idle again a solid result. Sound : Many of us would like our pc as quiet as possible. With 6 Noctua's/ Ocz 120mm Silent Power supply fan running the loudest fans in the system was the 2 Antec Spot cool fans at Low setting they are whisper quiet, at medium they do add to any noise of the overall system. However at high there is a slight increase in the overall noise but nothing overbearing or annoying. Conclusion : The Antec Spot cool fan has been around for quiet some time now and hopefully this review will get those buyers who might need that extra bit of cooling on their Video-Card, Ram modules or motherboard components the cooling it deserves. The Antec Spot Cool fan is a solid performer and not to forget it also comes with a 3 Year warranty.
Pros:
Very Easy to Adjust and install
Quiet and Reasonable on High setting
Blue Neon Lights
Cheap
3 Year Warranty
Cons:
Additional CFM?
Not avialable in Multi Packs as often 1 fan is not enough
Longer base rods to increase reach
