i-mac or macbook pro 13
 

So i am looking to switch and can afford either entry level computers. Here is what i would be doing with them.

1. Digital Photography
2. AVCHD Video editing
3. Light Gaming when the need arises
4. Email/Surfing/Watching Videos

budget is around 1200-1400 after taxes. I also have an exsisting SSD i could upgrade to boost performance.

My question is which one is going to give me the most bang for the bucks.

Well the MacBook Pro just got a nice update, and the iMac/Mac Mini lineups are rumoured for an update in September/October. Might be worth waiting for the new rollout if you can? Outside that, my money is still on the iMac if you don't need portability. Bigger screen and discreet graphics for less money.

wait until the new imacs come out, should be a good bit faster

that's what i figured. I don't really have the luxry of waiting so i picked one up today. Will post pics of it later possibly.

Get the iMac.

You seem like you want to spend a lot of time staring at the display.. The iMac starts at a 21.5" display, which is going to be far, far better for digital photography, video editing and watching videos. Of course, you could always plug in an external monitor with a Macbook Pro, but a display comparable to what comes with the iMac will cost you a couple hundred bucks plus adapters, and doing so is more or less admitting you should have got an iMac in the first place.

i ended up with an imac about a month ago. Now i just need to save up so i can get a copy of final cut pro x i really hate imovie. it's mostly useless for what i need to do with it.
