Default Mac codecs? (Video editing related)

Hey guys, I'm not a pro at video editing but I've done my fair share of video editing using Sony Vegas and Premiere.
Anyways, I just installed Final Cut Pro X, and Premiere on my new MBP and for some reason I can't import any of my existing .avi files that are just movies/shows I've downloaded I just wanted to play around with the software. I also tried iMovie and I still can't import it.

Premiere told me I'm missing codecs.?

Sorry I am sort of new to Mac side of things.

Thanks HWC.

My System Specs

Default

Not familar with the software but there isn't much in terms of codecs available. Perian is pretty much it.
