Building a gaming rig
Hi, I'm in need for some help, i've been chosing the pieces for the gaming rig i'll be mounting, but i am worried about the PSU, i'm not sure it is enough. The specs are something like this:
Asus Maximus IV Gene-Z
I7 2600k (oc to abt 4,5GHZ)
GTX 680 (thinking abt going sli later)
12 Gb of RAM 2133MHZ
2 120 GB SSD's in Raid 0
1 HDD for storage (abt 2TB)
I'm going for a corsair H80 at first but then i want to upgrade to costum watercooling
And i've chosen a 850W Silver PSU from XFX
It's not enough is it? Also i'll be open to other sugestions abt the rest
2500K,or 2550K is plenty for gaming, the PSU is ok, but the core series 850 is great psu(rebadged seasonic) and will power 2 680's and the rest of your rig, why grab the h-80 now? costs $90, and a 240mm rad kit is not a whole lot more, and way better cooling with option to upgrade.$250 for an XSPC raystorm and DDC pumpin a XSPC duel bay res, and an EX360mm RAD. Not to bad I payed over $325 for my RX360 RASA kit, when the XSPC kits first came out.
double post sorry.
Hmm Thank you for clearing my doubt. Abt the H80 i was planing to get it because i won't be able to buy all the watercooling parts right away and this way i'm sure the cpu will stay with no problem even with a nice oc, but i will definitly think abt ur suggestion. The 2600k is more because it will be a gaming rig but i want it to be able to multi-task easily, since i want to play and record the game together with live commentary, that's why :D. Thanks yet again :D
That is quite a machine you are building. I have always preferred the Corsair HX series for power supplies. I own the HX1000 but the HX850 will be plenty for your Dual 680's when you decide to get the second one. Also I am not sure how much the 12GB kit of ram is that you are purchasing but you can get a 1600 MHZ 16GB Vengeance kit from corsair, for under 100 dollars. I prefer the low profile ones.
Just a heads up, the HX1000 is on sale right now for cheaper than the HX850. it's 100 dollars off, quite a steal if you are looking to get a powerful power supply. Don't know if it will last too long before it gets sold out.
Corsair Professional HX1000W 1000W ATX 12V 80A 24PIN ATX Modular Power Supply Active PFC 140MM Fan - Corsair - CMPSU-1000HX
And here is the ram I mentioned.
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB 4X4GB DDR3-1600 9-9-9-24 Dual Channel Memory Kit - Corsair - CML16GX3M4A1600C9 (currently 102 but I seen them for just under 100 at around 95 or so)
The H100 is also on sale right now for only 10 dollars more than the H80. Not a bad upgrade for 10 dollars if you don't mind spending an extra 10 bucks.
Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H100 Extreme Performance CPU Cooler System LGA1366 2011 1156 AM2 AM3 - Corsair - CWCH100
and just out curiosity, what tower are you housing your stuff with ? :)
Overall looks good. Consider that anything over 1600mhz for ram gives almost zero benefit (personally I would save some cash and get 1600mhz). If its primarily a gaming rig I suggest going for a 2500k (unless you have the extra $100 burning a hole in your pocket for the 2600k). If you know you are going to go to a custom water cooled setup, then I would just grab a cheap air cooler until you do so (hyper 212+ or 212 EVO will do the job very well).
Thks deinosaur. Abt those links i live in Portugal, Europe so it's a bit harder to find it :P. And i want that power supply (i know it's stupid) mostly for it's look xD, it goes perfectly with my colour scheme ^^. Abt the H100 i rly dont want a radiator that big at first. Not sure abt what i'll do abt that H80 yet, might get a aircooling solution to beggin and than make a costum watercooling. The RAM i'll rly think abt the 1600 Mhz option :D. For the case i'll be getting the NZXT Phantom, white version (going to paint it myself and do some changes). Bond007 abt the 2600k i'm thinking abt getting a i7 3770k now that it's out and i've answered that before. I want to do multitasking and for it to go smoth that's why i want a powerfull CPU
